The SENAPIQ-STP is a public institute, operating with administrative, financial, technical, and patrimonial autonomy under the oversight of the Ministry responsible for Industry (the Ministry of Economy and Finance). Matters pertaining to economic-financial and cultural affairs require mandatory consultation with the Ministries overseeing Finance and Culture.
Our responsibilities include:
Presenting proposals that lead to the definition of policies concerning Industrial Property, Copyright and Related Rights, Standardisation, Certification, Accreditation, and Metrology, and implementing effective policies in these areas.
Developing and proposing the sectoral programme in these domains.
Promoting, in conjunction with sectorally competent bodies, the planning and programming of actions necessary for the execution of defined policies, as well as proposing appropriate legislative measures.
Ensuring the granting and protection of Industrial Property rights, Copyright and Related Rights, always aiming to strengthen fair competition and combat usurpation, piracy, and counterfeiting, collaborating with national and international entities in activities related to intellectual property infringements.
Mission:
SENAPIQ-STP’s main objective is to promote the protection of Intellectual Property Rights and Quality in São Tomé and Príncipe, both nationally and internationally, as follows:
Processing applications for the protection of inventions, industrial designs, and models, as well as providing information on existing techniques from published patent documents.
Effectively protecting and regulating trademarks, trade names, indications of origin, appellations of origin, and suppressing unfair competition.
Fostering and processing registrations of Copyright and Related Rights.
Developing strategies and policies for cooperation, funding, development, and promotion of Copyright and Related Rights.
Promoting the conceptual and organisational development of the National Quality System, with a view to integrating all relevant components for improving the quality of products, processes, and services.
Promoting the drafting of standards, verifying suspension periods, public inquiry, their approval and homologation, and proceeding with their respective publication and sale.
Collecting, processing, and disseminating relevant information for the harmonious development of the National Quality System, ensuring, in particular, interchange between São Tomé and Príncipe and international entities in this matter.
